Baby music beyond bedtime: a short awake-time ritual.
A few minutes of listening together can have its own place without making every song about sleep.
Choose a moment with no sleep target.
You might sit together for a short song when your baby is awake and comfortable. Let the activity be a little musical company rather than a way to prepare for a nap. Check care needs first and keep the plan easy to abandon if your baby wants something different.
Offer your attention with the song.
You could smile, hum along or say a few words about what you hear. There is no requirement to teach instrument names or make your baby demonstrate a response. A pause in the melody can simply be a pause; you do not have to fill it with another toy or screen.
Keep the room simple.
Turn off other optional audio before playing the track quietly. Keep devices out of reach and give yourselves a clear ending. A short listen does not need to become a continuous stream that accompanies every wakeful period. Quiet interaction is an equally useful option when music is inconvenient or unwelcome.
Save a favourite without making a rule.
If you enjoy a piece, keep it where you can find it another day. If the activity does not suit the moment, stop without giving the baby a label such as “not musical.” Questions about hearing, communication or development deserve an individual conversation with a qualified professional, not a judgement based on a playlist session.

One small pause.
One familiar melody.
