UNDERSTANDING SLEEP · 2 min read
How long should a baby sleep playlist be?
Build a short bedtime selection around a real moment rather than an all-night promise.
Give the playlist a job.
Decide whether the music accompanies a cuddle, a short bedtime ritual or a quiet moment before settling. A clear purpose helps you choose a sensible length. A collection titled “eight hours” is not evidence that a baby needs eight hours of sound or will sleep for that long.
Start with fewer decisions.
Choose a small number of pieces you enjoy hearing. Listen through their beginnings and endings so there are no surprises when you use them later. A shorter list is easier to understand and change than a large queue assembled in a hurry from recommendations you have never heard yourself.
Plan how it ends.
Check whether your streaming app continues with suggested music after the selected tracks. Decide whether to stop manually or use a timer available on your device. Your choice can be based on convenience; it is not a treatment plan. Do not place the device or its charging cable in the cot.
Edit for the family you have.
If the selection feels repetitive in an unpleasant way, shorten it or replace a track. If your baby appears uncomfortable, stop and attend to them. There is no universal duration that works for every child. For individual sleep questions, use professional advice rather than a playlist title as your guide.
